Make Something of It: A Writer Wednesday Post

Forest Mandala & all text ©Irene O’Garden 2013

Starting next week, I will be making my annual three-week writing retreat. I am not sure what shape, if any, my blog will take during these inward turning days, for I never know quite what I will be called upon to make. (This Forest Mandala comes from last year’s retreat.)  Meantime, here’s a reminder from my Muse to Yours. Make yourself  a wonderful New Year.

If it matters to you

It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make money.

It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense.

It doesn’t matter if  it doesn’t make headlines.

It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make friends.

It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make things easier.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what it is.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know where it’s going.

But it does matter.

It doesn’t matter if it seems obvious.

It doesn’t matter if it seems silly.

It doesn’t matter how it seems.

You do not matter how you seem.

You matter how you are.

It doesn’t matter if it comes easily.

It doesn’t matter if you struggle with it.

It matters if you don’t make it.

It matters if you don’t make it matter.

It matters if it bothers you.

It matters if it makes you laugh.

It matters if it makes sense.

It matters if it bleeds.

It matters if it makes you cry.

It matters.

You matter.

You make it matter.

You make it.

You make.

    You. Make. Me. Weep.
This post stings. And feels like a balm, too. A call to action.
You are so profound, all I can think of right now is: I can’t believe I
know you. (stolen from from Tracy)

    • Thanks, Karen–I so admire your ongoing makery. I am equally proud to know you–

  • Mana

What a wonderful affirmation for all of us who just “do” and “play”without questioning why. Beautifully expressed and it confirms my growing excitement about 2013. Thanks, Irene.

Irene,,, One of your best pieces of work ….. of course all of your work is top shelf , GRADE A – PLUS / but that’s a judgement on my part / exactly what your work asks us NOT to do……..

The work itself is such an important voice… When I create its those voices that say its the opposite of what is written here try to divert and sabotage….” not good enough, doesnt mean anything,” Certainly, in the creative process the creator hears, sees, feels the
creative sound” — and tha tis ENOUGH / plenty / full. Thank you for expressing it so write -ily.

We all have those dark voices, Mark–just a matter of re-remembering to tune in to our healthy ones. Thanks, my dear–

  • ccdewolf

thank you, thank you, thank you. I needed this!

  • IreneOGarden

You are so welcome, CC—I picked up a book of Hefiz poems yesterday in direct and delightful response to the wonderful quote you shared. Thanks for getting me what I needed as well!

  • Oh, boy, do I have a lot of things to matter and not to matter! Thanks you for letting it not matter if it’s obvious (’cause I am painfully obvious at times – actually, now that I’ve read this week’s blog, maybe I’m NOT so painfully obvious – because it doesn’t matter!).
